PHOENIX, ARIZ., – Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, Republican Candidate for Congress in AZ-04, has over 25 years of experience as a primary care physician for thousands of veterans. He gave the following statement after learning that President Biden’s Department of Veterans Affairs in 2022 processed a large number of claims for illegal immigrants. Concerned Veterans for America report over 160,000 said claims.
“Our vets already have long wait times, often waiting months for critical care. As an American, a Veteran, and a doctor that has cared for thousands of vets during and after their service, I am incensed,” said Jasser. “It is unacceptable that the VA under Biden has processed any claims from illegal immigrants – let alone 160,000 – while making the men and women who put their lives on the line wait to receive care. Is this how we repay the men and women who went to war for us? We haven’t heard a peep from the Biden rubber-stampers in our state, Congressmen Greg Stanton and Ruben Gallego. Shame on the Biden Administration, and shame on those who remain silent. As your next Congressman, I will put our Veterans first, not last. I will fight to end preference for illegal immigrants once and for all, and draft reforms to get our VA system moving again. America has the greatest fighting force in the world. They deserve the greatest care from their country in return.”
The VA system was under heavy national and federal scrutiny pre-pandemic. Reform was promised, specifically in Arizona, and the government spent significant resources on a poorly administered program to fill the backlog with very expensive private physicians. Veterans and advocacy organizations are questioning why Biden’s VA has a deal with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to serve illegal immigrants as the border crisis intensifies.
